Claire Coles Inspiration

I am about to pack up the car and head up to the house in Marblehead for the weekend. We have to tackle a leaky roof and some backed up pipes. The toilet on the first floor backs up with water when we take a shower on the second floor. Joy!

Before we go I thought I would share some wallpaper I saw at ICFF that I'm inspired by. Claire Coles is a UK artist that designs wallpaper, ceramics, and accessories. I've been wanting to pick a wallpaper for our front entry but I just can't decide. I don't know if I have found "the one" quite yet. What if I painted it myself? I did go to school for textile design. I could do it! At least I think I can. I love the colors in Claire's work. Blues, reds, and golden yellows are a great combo. Maybe I could stamp an allover design like Claire's on the walls first. Now I'm thinking! Check out more of Claire's work: clairecolesdesign.co.uk.

Entryway Wallpaper: Boussac Papiers

I just found these two wallpapers via housebeautiful.com. Very traditional. So pretty though! I feel like my mom would love this paper which makes me kinda think am I starting to get old lady taste? Let me explain...my mom is a matchy-match queen! I moved a lot as a kid and every bedroom I had was some variation of a Laura Ashley or Waverly inspired floral. My garbage can even coordinated with the bedskirt. Gag! Check out more colorways of these wallpapers: pierrefrey.com.

Entryway Wallpaper: Pierre Deux

Favenay Cream Wallpaper, $150 for a double roll, pierredeux.com

I was dreaming about wallpaper for the front entryway this afternoon. I am thinking I might want to paint all the woodwork a black gloss. The area is pretty small so a bold wallpaper might be nice. I was kinda wanting to go crazy and go for a big floral but part of me thinks I will just get be sick of it in a few years. How about a soothing toile? I'm not sure...I could be toiled out. I feel like I've seen so much of it in the last few years that it feels kinda old and safe. Check out more wallpaper from Pierre Deux: pierredeux.com.

Finding Old Wallpaper

O.k. bear with me while I learn how to edit movies. This is a total hack job but everyone is e-mailing asking what we did with the (new) house over the weekend. We did some unglamorous things like pull out stinky cat carpet and clean the place. We got bored and started chipping away at a wall in a small room on the second floor. We found this beautiful floral wallpaper under layers of plaster and another layer of wallpaper. Were not sure if the paper is original. The house dates to 1750. The paper has a whimsical Liberty of London style. I have to do some research. I will share more fun things we found over the weekend once I get some rest. Night!

Strawberry Banke

IMG_1757

I was up Portsmouth, New Hampshire over the weekend getting inspiration at Strawberry Banke. I was there checking out 18th century architecture similar to my potential new house. Strawberry Banke has a walking museum tour that allows you to tour restored homes dating back to 1740. I was surprised how much colorful wallpaper appeared in all of the historic homes. The wallpapers are reproductions of French and English papers that were typical during the time period. To check out more of the tour click on any image to view my flickr photostream page. Enjoy!

The paper is available in number of different colorways. My favorites are above in "kraft and white" and below in "black and white".

DIY-Art Gallery Stencils

How freakin cool are these? Stencils designs that create a decorative art gallery on your walls. As soon as I saw these I was instanly reminded of Lisa Bengttsson "family" wallpaper (check it out on design*sponge). The stencils come in various op art prints and a group of decadent baroque styles. I would love to see these in a kids rooms or an using it as a fancy bulletin board above a desk. Stencils are great because the cost is low and their is not as big of commitment as wallpaper. To check out more: stencil-library.com.

Cavern Wallpaper

The above image is from a NY Times piece that ran over the weekend. I love this wallpaper designed by Carly Margolis. It seems birds and nature are popping up all over walls in the past few years. I'm a big fan of Carly and I am pretty much in love with all of wallpapers. The papers are great because they ooze a groovy lounge feel. Motifs are transformed into patterned wallcovers that kinda leave a viewer guessing what they are really looking at. Is that that a gold tiger? Try using these wallpapers in a funky lounge, boutique, or restaurant. Check out cavern.com to view more papers for sure to shake up any interior.

Hamilton Weston Wallpapers

Interior designer Georgina Hamilton and architectural historian Robert Weston founded Hamilton Weston Wallpapers to reproduce their unique archive of historic wallpapers. Hamilton West on prints are all hand-printed and represent historic papers from the late 1600's to 1800's. Hamilton West has a fantastic tool on their site that allows you to see the paper in a situation (above). The tool is great because you get to see that actual scale and pattern of the design. Colors can be customized but you must purchase at least 9-10 rolls. Check out the site to play with this cool tool, here.

Mette LØeber

I found Mette LØeber on wallcollection.com where she has some pretty fantastic wallpapers (shown above). I was intrigued by the work and did a little more investigating. Turns out she has her own site but it's in Danish? So instead of learning more about her I just drooled over her pretty textiles and sculptures. That was the only part I figure out...that she was a textile designer. If you have any more info feel free to drop a comment below.

Adelphi Paper Hangings

I've started to collect a massive pile of favorite wallpaper sites. It seems everyday another great company pops up. I thought I would start my posts with more traditional companies and move toward modern prints. I will then compile all the sites in a neat and tighty list for easy reference. If you have a favorite site please leave a comments below and I will be sure to check it out.

So let's start with Adelphi Paper Hangings. Adelphi makes classic prints in historical correct colors and motifs. Each print has been thoroughly researched in institutions and archives in the US, England and France. One of the things that seperates Adlephi apart is the great deal of effort placed on achieving a process that is correct to the original historical wood block prints. Adelphi uses modern tools, materials, and procedures that compare to it's historic counterparts to produce papers with the same genuine character. To read more about this process, click here. Check out my favorites above and below. To view the entire collection of historic papers dating from 1750's-1930's click here.

twenty2-peekaboo wallpaper

I had to share one last post tonight. Twenty2 has a new wallpaper that is blushing with love. A perfect print to share just a week before Valentine's day. Peekaboo has heart scroll pattern that is feminine and sophiscated. The print kinda reminds me of the scroll on my favorite bentwood chairs. I imagine the print in a bedroom in the "ice color" or a wall in closet in "bubblegum'. The prints comes in 5 different colorways including the three above and below. To purchase and check out more click here. Time to head off to the gym. Night!

Cole & Son's Woods Paper

I first spotted this paper on Extreme Home Makeover. The paper lined an entire master bedroom. The designers customized the paper a bit and added a stencil of a raven perched onto the trees . I guess the homeowners had some connection with ravens...not sure I caught the end of the show. I really feel in love with the paper...but I couldn't find the source anywhere.

In this month's Domino, which I just misplaced so I can't tell you the exact story. Anyway the paper was shown again. This time in a black/white with no raven. I finally got the source, Cole & Son!

I really like nature inspired papers. I particularly like this one because it looks like the trees have been hand drawn. The marks are quite abstract but they come together to form beautiful and graceful trees.

It felt like a heat wave today as warm weather moved through New York Metro area. I went this out and had a nice walk this afternoon with no coat or hat! Shocking for early January. It made me wish winter was over. I probably would never get the winter blues if I had a wall of Twenty 2's Promende wallpaper in my entryway. twenty2.net.

Thibaut Wallpapers

I woke up this morning yearning for some big print wallpaper. I love these three prints from Thibaut. Prints perfect for a great big old house. So beautiful!

Thibaut designs a lot of classic florals available in wallpapers and fabrics. You'll find over the top grandma prints mixed with some toned down modern versions. Wallpapers that my mom and I could both agree are truly stunning.

My favorite is the print shown above. Bridgewater Damask feels like an updated version of a classic damask mixed with an ethnic Indian block print. Available in 6 other colorways. Check out all the designs by clicking here.
