Old Watercolor Sketch

I am in the midst of cleaning out my office/studio and I came across this old watercolor sketch I did in college. You can see how much I am attracted to organized chaos in this piece! Totally makes sense why I loved that William Loveless piece so much!

Images From the Train

Last night I came home late from the city. The train was so quite and peaceful. I took a few shots as the train speed through various towns up to Connecticut. The light captured gets spread across the large black space creating bursts of marks in the sky. The images to me are really beautiful and simple.

I have stretched!

One stretcher down...9 more to go. My boyfriend asked for 10 paintings for Christmas. So I am going to let the gesso dry on this canvas and then put a base color down to dry overnight. I'll then have room then to stretch another canvas in the morning. The next canvas is more rectangular. I only have room to do 2 paintings at a time in my small studio.

Stripe Paintings

The Stripe paintings are part of large series of paintings that work with color and compostion. In my former life, I was Textile Design major in college. I loved textile design but I got a C- in this stripes & plaids rendering class. I just couldn't get the stripes to be perfectly straight!

So this is my version. I love that my stripes have such terrific energy and personality. Straight lines are boring. The painting on top is really tactile...the image doesn't give it justice.

I have a huge collection of striped grosgrain ribbon that gives me my inspiration. Go to a great ribbon shop on 38th street and 6th avenue in NYC. I can't remember the name...it's around the corner from M&J. Anyway, great shop that is filled with tons of striped ribbon.

So I am going to dig up some more stuff to amuse you. Let me know what you find inspring or fun?

I am always available via e-mail for questions. elliott.katy@gmail.com
