<p>One of my favorite local mags to read is <span style="font-style:italic;"><a href="http://www.edibleboston.net/content/index.php/issue-12/table-of-contents.htm"target="_blank">edible</span> Boston</a>. The photography and layout are captivating and gorgeous.</p>

<p>Many of the photos in the seasonal based magazine are by <a href="http://www.michaelpiazzaphotography.com/"target="_blank">Michael Piazza</a>. Michael creates simple photographs that will make drool. Snapshots that somehow capture the taste and smell of his edible subjects. Above is the Spring 2009 cover designed by Michael. The second half of the image appears along side a story about &#8220;Shad in the Charles River&#8221;. Below are just a few of Michael&#8217;s photographs that have appeared in <span style="font-style:italic;">edible</span> Boston.</p>

<p>Decorative lines and swoops of pen make me wish I took calligraphy classes. Above a detail from the February issue of <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/penmanship?lnc=bf89cf380e1dd010VgnVCM1000005b09a00aRCRD&#038;rsc=lpg_crafts&#038;lpgStart=1&#038;currentslide=1&#038;currentChapter=1"target="_blank">Martha Stewart Living</a> featuring the penmanship of &#8220;E. L. Brown, a master penman of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, executed the work above, imbuing it with a rhythmic sense of movement.&#8221; Below a  bright turquoise <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/penmanship?lnc=bf89cf380e1dd010VgnVCM1000005b09a00aRCRD&#038;rsc=lpg_crafts&#038;lpgStart=1&#038;currentslide=5&#038;currentChapter=1">framed scarf </a>from the 1950&#8242;s featuring calligraphic designs. Two of my favorite calligraphy pieces available through <a href="http://tillouantiques.com/936"target="_blank">Tillou Antiques</a> date between 1875-1885. The sweeping scrolls give each of the works great energy and sense of movement.</p>
