Holiday Doors In Beacon Hill

Holiday door in Beacon Hill

I love all of these doors that I shot in Beacon Hill (boston) on Sunday afternoon. So quaint and New England. Hopefully we will get our house painted this summer. I really want to paint our front door red like the image above. Enjoy the rest of holiday!

Blue Front Doors

The above door is featured in the November issue of domino. The door belongs to interior designer Miles Redd. The blue is a perfect shade and I love the silver hardware against the cool blue. I found a similar door via sosylvie.typepad which she found via designersblock.blogspot. Both are great blogs full of inspiration. The blue door below is from a home in the SW of London. I love the door knob in the center of the door! The blue stripe ban up the entryway stairs really ties the space together.

Fall Leaf Garland

I was thinking about attempting making this leaf garland to around our front door. I checked out the leaves around the house this afternoon and they all seemed pretty dried out. Maybe I could collect enough to make a wreath? The above image is from Martha Stewart November 2007. Click on the image above for full instructions on how to make your own falling leaves garland.

White Flower Pots at Ikea

I did a little Ikea field trip today and found loads of good deals. I especially love all the white vases and flower pots I found. White can be a little difficult to find sometimes so I was overjoyed to find such an assortment of bright whites in awesome shapes. I think my favorite were the large dot planters (below). They would be amazing flanking a front door or scattered around a patio. A steal for $49.99. Total bummer you can't buy online.

Oilcloth for Outdoor Tables

Mustikkamaa, $52 for 36 x 54 piece, finnishgifts.com.

How about a little sewing project for the weekend? I love idea of using any of these fun and bright oilcloths for outdoor tables. Oilcloth is great fabric to use for outdoors because it can be easily be wiped cleaned—kid and sudden thunderstorm friendly. I pick out a few pricey Marimekko prints...but they are so crush-worthy! Equally as fun and chic are Mexican oilcloths (below) a steal for $7.95 a yard. Check out each of the sites listed to find a plethora of other choices.

French Striped Beach Chairs

Les Toiles du Soleil, 13 stripes available, $140, quelobjet.com.

I can't stand sitting on the beach on just a towel or an uncomfortable plastic chair. The thought of it just kinda grosses me out. I would much rather lounge in a pretty striped "Les Toiles du Soleil", a classic French beach chair made of beachwood and cotton. The chairs adjust to 4 different lounging positions making days at beach or pool easy and relaxing. I have to admit the stripe fabric is what initially seduced me. The chairs are available in a number of bright sunny stripes and color combinations. I found a few retails statewide that carry inventories of the chairs online. Check out some of favorites above and below.

Outdoor Space Ideas for Weddings

I have always imagine getting married outside in the springtime. I've hoped that someday the event would be in my backyard filled with close friends and family. Domino just launched a huge new gallery of outdoor rooms that would be great inspiration for a backyard wedding or party. I've had the above photo tacked to my bulletin board next to my desk forever. A great mexican fiesta would be so fun and it would give me an excuse to buy tons of gorgeous oaxan textiles and paper flowers. A close second would be an event that felt like a casual afternoon lunch in an englist garden (below). All the looks have a mismatched bohemian quality that I totally love. Check out more outdoor rooms for tons of inspiration: dominomag.com.

ICFF 2008

I had a great time checking out my first ICFF show but damn I am exhausted. I don't know if I have shared the real reason why I was attending ICFF and the National Stationery Show this weekend? I am starting my own online store! I want the store to be highly curated and focus on home accessories that are colorful and patterned driven. I saw some great things at ICFF that were super inspiring. I've never owned my own store so I do have a lot to learn. Baby steps, right? I am so excited. Check out some of my shots from ICFF by clicking here. I will tell you more about each individual company once I get a little rest. But for now just spend some time ooogling over some major house porn.

Vincent Sheppard

The weather is warming up and before long are complaints will shift from the air being "too cold" to it being "too hot". Woven lounge seating with a vintage flair would refresh any outdoor space. These "Lazy Gigi" chairs would be stunners in white, green, blue, or pink. I love the photo of them in green nestled around a large dining table. Check out more: vincentsheppard.com.

Ikea-Garden

Ikea is my favorite place to pick-up garden pots, vases, and accessories for perfect party tables. With Spring right around the corner it's time to think about prepping your garden and see what you need for the upcoming growing season. I love the mini greenhouse ($14.99) above. I gave it to my nieces last year as an easter present. Perfect because it keeps little hands out while they watch their seeds grow.

Check out these great square and rectangular ($9.99) galvanized steel flower holders (above). Insert a terracotta pot for contrast and you will get instant curb appeal. I totally dig the square version. I would probably mimic the shape with a square pot so that it look more modern less country.

And finally how could I make a Ikea visit without buying a new centerpiece solution? I really need to stop because I have no more room! The trays are available in 6 and 12 pot trays they meant to be used for seed starting. Why not trying making amazing table setting with filled with grass or a number of potted plants. You could totally get creative with these trays! A steal for $9.99 each. Check out more at: ikea.com.

Garden Leaf Sculptures

I found these gorgeous beauties at a local Art Festival. The handmade leaf sculptures are made using large common leaves found in backyards and fields native to Massachusetts.

Each sculpture is outstanding! A leaf is used only once before it’s discarded. Using a leaf just one time allows the sculpture to have the greatest amount of texture and relief.

The sculptures are large and just heavy enough not to blow away in the wind. Rest the large leaves in a garden, next to a brick pathway, or on a porch. I am imagining mine on a large glass coffee table. How brilliant!

The sculptures range in price from $45.00 to $95.00. They can be shipped for an additional cost. Contact Gerda Maaskant by phone, 978-443-0319 or by e-mail, gemaaskant@yahoo.com for more information.
