I have been eyeing this specific lamp for years. Seriously. While I was doing my morning blog cruising I came across a glass lamp round-up on Remodelista. I was scrolling down thinking seen it, seen it, and then the Cherub lamp (my favorite from Ochre) and it was on sale for $225 marked down from $800 (update: no longer on sale after march 7th)! After about two hours of mulling it over, I called Ochre with full intentions of buying just one and then I went for it and bought a pair! This is totally unlike me to be so nonchalant about a big decorating purchase. As you all know…how long it took me to pick my molding color, ha! But I think they’ll be beautiful as a set in my bedroom or maybe one in the den with the green molding? So exciting.

This past week I’ve been talking with Greg about putting a light at the top of our stairwell—A few things have to happen before we can actually do this like maybe taking down the ceiling. He was totally against the idea of hanging a ceiling lamp and thought we should do sconces on the walls instead.

In the Rosebrook bar at the Mt. Washington hotel I looked up to find exactly the light I was trying to explain: the bell jar lantern. He really likes the style and how the glass reflects rings onto the ceiling. I’ve spotted a few similar versions at <a href="http://www.potterybarn.com/products/hundi-lantern/?pkey=cpendants"target="_blank">Pottery Barn, <a href="http://circalighting.com/details.aspx?pid=748"target="_blank">Circa Lighting, and <a href="http://www.shadesoflight.com/bronze-and-clear-glass-smokebell-lantern.html"target="_blank">Shades of Light but I’ll have to keep looking because it can’t be too big or long. Below a few more pieces from the hotel that we found inspiring.

Grace from <a href="http://twitter.com/design_sponge"target="_blank">design*sponge shared a great glass jug lamp this morning on <a href="http://twitter.com/elliottkaty"target="_blank">twitter. She wondered where she could find the parts to make her own. I’ve been eyeing this project for months. I would love some glass jug lamps scattered all around my house. They feel so nautical and New England.

Above is an inspiration shot from <a href="http://www.katyelliott.com/blog/2009/06/relaxed-bahamas-beach-house.html"target="_blank">Tom Scheerer. A few glass reed wrap bottles and insulators I’ve spotted at local flea markets below. The jugs are quite easy to convert. You can purchase a cork sockets for around $15, thanks <a href="http://twitter.com/kateflaim"target="_blank">Kate Flaim for the source! Basically you just stick the cork into the bottle and your done. Below an <a href="http://www.lampshop.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=R8015&Category_Code=10_02d_PARTS_ELECTRIC_KITS"target="_blank">Insulator Night Light Kit for $20. So cute for a small space or hallway.

I haven’t found a source online yet for vintage glass jugs. I have spotted them at fleamarkets and antique stores around New England. Do you know a good online source? Leave a comment below.

p.s. Anne from <a href="http://twitter.com/citysage"target="_blank">the City Sage just gave me the head’s up on a post about unique jug resources on <a href="http://decorology.blogspot.com/2009/06/vintage-wine-bottle-sourcing-updatejug.html"target="_blank">decorology.

I love the terra cotta paired with the glass. They remind of the terrariums I spotted this past winter at Farmhouse Wares (below). The price is pretty steep for the lanterns; $135 for the small version. I wonder if it would be cheaper to buy a basic terra cotta pot base and a basic glass hurricane? I have the bases and think if I really search my closets I have hurricanes. Would be so pretty in a garden.

Many of you feel in love with Rie Elise Larsen’s pleated lampshades I posted yesterday. I found diy instructions on <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/good-things/lampshade-slipcovers?autonomy_kw=paper%20pleated%20lampshade&rsc=image_1"target="_blank">marthastewart.com so that we can all make our own. Super easy. Basically you fold decorative paper accordian style, holes are punches around the shade, and a string is threaded through the holes to pull the shade together. See the <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/good-things/lampshade-slipcovers?autonomy_kw=paper%20pleated%20lampshade&rsc=image_1"target="_blank">full instructions here.

Need a source for decorative paper to make the shades? Try <a href="http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/paper/index.html"target="_blank">Paper Source for a large selection of Japanese, Indian, and European papers. A few of my favorites below. Also try using wrapping paper, wallpaper, or paper you have hand stamped. Have fun!

The start of fleamarket/tag sale/auction season is right around the corner. April 5th marks opening day at <a href="http://www.toddfarm.com/index2.html"target="_blank">Todd’s Farm here in Massachusetts. Then in May we have the super show, <a href="http://www.brimfield.com/"target="_blank">Brimfield. I need to get organized on what I am looking for the house and what I need for my new store. (My store is going is going to launch mid-may online.) I tend to impulse shop. Kinda like going to the grocery store hungry—never a good idea. I need a list of products that I have researched and know their value so I don’t end up wasting money. With a small budget I really need to stay on track.

One thing I really need for the house is table lamps. I covet all of these from Circa Lighting. Circa just seems to get all the proportions and finishes right. Some of the lights are reasonably priced but once you get into the marble bases the prices can get out of control. I know I can find alabaster bases at fleamarkets for reasonable prices. I decided to create a binder this year of my inspiration shots and measurements for every single space in my house. I hate seeing the deal of lifetime and wondering, will it fit? I know I can never be for sure if a piece will work. It’s all trial and error. I would just rather go out there with some kind of plan. I can so easily get suckered in just because it’s pretty. To check out more lighting visit Circa’s website: <a href="http://circalighting.com/index.aspx"target="_blank">circalighting.com.
