Edward del Rosario

I was just reading an article on the nytimes.com about the lack of new babies in Europe. The article was interesting but I was really attracted to artwork the Times used to illustrate the story. Edward del Rosario is a Brooklyn based artist that shows at Richard Heller Gallery. I am totally impressed by Rosario's work. Check out more: richardhellergallery.com.

Tugboat Printshop

We all have friday off at domino. So I thought I would spend the morning going through all the cards at picked up at Renegade last weekend. (I guess later I have to do the housework, blah.) I realized the last few days I am really into nautical motifs. I don't know if it's the summer weather that has me in the mood? How about these awesome prints from Tugboat Printshop? All the pieces shown here are woodcuts printed on paper. The prints would be great in a kids room: super colorful and imaginative. Prices are all about $45 for a 9.5" x 12.5" hand-printed piece. Check out more at: tugboatprintshop.com.

3rd Floor Studio Designs

3rd floor studio hats

I totally fell for these octopus hats that I spotted at Renegade over the weekend; so cute! I wanted to buy them all but the 90 degree heat really didn't have me in the mood of feeling cozy and putting on hats. Luckily 3rd Floor Studio sells on etsy.com. I think the hat will be the perfect gift for my artsy friend who's having a baby in August. The hats are handknit in a wool-cotton blend which is perfectly soft for a baby. Octopus hat, $32. Check out the designer's cute blog and etsy shop: ouryellowhouse.typepad.com.

Colorful Insect Pins as Art

I love the idea of buying a whole bunch of these insect pins and displaying them in a shadow box. Line the box with a pretty linen to give the artwork a high end feel. Part me wants to buy a 100 of them and make a huge piece to hang in my niece's room. Totally fun and affordable. $6 for a pack of 12: curiosityshoppeonline.com.

Animal Printed Cards

I have a five-year old niece who is at the perfect age of wanting to know everything about the world. The kid amazes me with the things she remembers. She knows every dinosaur name by heart and she can identify every new blossoming plant in her garden. When I saw these cards I totally thought of our budding naturalist. The prints would be great framed as a set in her bedroom (would be awesome for a non-gender nursery too!). If I had discovered them last month I would have used them as invitations to her animal themed birthday party at Rye Nature Center.

Designed by illustrator Matt Cipov each card is sold in a assorted set of four, $16.00. Each print measures 4" x 6" and is individually hand-stamped and customized. Check out more at: threepotatofour.com.

Textiles from Mexico

Totally bizarre how many people are talking about these textiles. It's as if we are all sick of winter and are in search of color! I got this great tip on Shelterric, which was written by Leah from More Ways To Waste Time, who also recently wrote about Jacaranda. I had to list Leah's new e-bay source as one of my favorites to find this great fabric.

I am as crazy about these textiles as I am about suzanis! I think the animal print would be amazing in a kids room. Totally fun, colorful, and modern. Or maybe because I don't have any kids I'll get for myself! Check out this great source: Mexican-Textiles-Museum-Store.

freddy & ma melamine plates

Freddy & Ma has recently introduced a line of custom designed melamine plates. The site makes it pretty fun to create your own set—actually a bit addicting you'll find yourself spending hours clicking through at all the different patterns. The plates will be perfect for outdoor parties this summer.

I kinda love the idea of giving these plates to families with kids. The melamine is super kid-friendly and the hip designs are perfect for design-savvy parents. Move over Elmo...there's a new plate in town. Custom Plate, Melamine, $12 each freddyandma.com. Don't miss their custom designed pillows available in all the same great patterns.

Tiny McSmall Website

One last post...I had to share! I just found this great site, tinymcsmall.com, filled with all kinds of cute kids stuff. I really absolutely can't resist the personalized barrettes above. I might get them for my niece. $24 for 4, lead time two weeks. I grew up in a house where every outfit had a matching hair accessorie. Yes, my mother was a bit neurotic about it. Think of it more as being really committed to me looking as cute as possible.

Anyway...I love this site. The layout and photographs are really great! Pretty simple and conveys this feeling of handmade quality children's clothing. If I only had some kids...
