Afternoon Summertime Snack

This is what I’ve been waiting for all summer, tomato season. I will eat them simply and again try my hand at a homemade sauce—Greg said last year it was the best he’s ever had. Was it a fluke? Or is a summer tomato that transcendental it doesn’t matter if I’m a good cook or not?

p.s. I got a call at 7 p.m. asking if I wanted to pick up a 20 lb box of heirloom tomatoes from my CSA, best treat ever!

Heirloom tomatoes

Snapped on Washington Street.

  1. I have been eating tomato sandwiches (open faced, on toasted sourdough, with mayo, salt and pepper) nonstop for lunch for about 2 weeks. I just can’t get enough! And, if the bland tasteless pink tomatoes off season weren’t enough to deter me from patiently waiting until late summer to enjoy them, this interview on the Splendid Table with the author of Tomatoland will! http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/listings/110820/ – very eye opening.
