Sheepskin: Rent A Cottage In Wales

cragside 23 500x361 Sheepskin: Rent A Cottage In Wales

I’m dying to go to the UK. I want to see rolling green fields, sheep, and more plaid blankets than I could possibly shove into my carry on bag. Over the weekend a twitter chat brought me to Sheepskin. The cottages on the site are in remote parts of Wales many with beautiful rolling hills just out the backdoor.

Greg and I have talked about taking a trip this fall but we can’t decide. First it was Italy, then a road trip from Southern California to Seattle, but now I am leaning towards a London/Wales trip. But can we really take a trip? That damn house needs a new roof, gutters and fireplace repair ect etc this summer. Am I living in a fairy tale thinking I could possibly do both?

I moved to Cornwall after marrying my British husband a year ago swapping a house in downtown Atlanta for a new home in a tiny village of 500.

Wales is lovely, but Cornwall, in the southwestern part of England is the place to see. We live 10 miles from the ocean and Bodmin moor is practically right outside our back door.

Below is a link to some photographs I took during a coast path walk last month.

Go! Houses will always need something but there is nothing like a special trip to review you. Before we had kids, we flew over to London, spent a day there, then took the train up through Wales. The view out the windows was amazing! Then we hopped the ferry from Holyhead and went to Ireland for a week before reversing the trip. Of course, oldest is six and we have not had a vacation quite like that since. Still plugging away on the house though : )

Well if you hired a car when you came to the UK you could drive from London and practically past the front door of Baileys Home and Garden on your way to Wales (whooppee!!)- and Hay on Wye (millions of bookshops, lovely shops and amazing walks) Ludlow (great Georgian/Medieval market town – brilliant buildings) Leominster (antiques/bric a brac etc) are all within a hop skip and a jump of the Welsh border (where I live). I am sure you would love it all. If you need any recommendations let me know – but here is a nearby holiday let to give you an idea

Ha, we have the same dilemma. Last year our “big trip” was a drive from NYC to Maine — which we adored. My dream is to go skiing in France.

But maybe you could at least write off the trip as “research” or write a story about it for the NY Times or Conde Nast Traveler. You know — a design/garden tour trip, staying in historic houses, etc.

Thanks everyone for your tips. I want to go.
Maybe this is the motivation I need to figure out our finances.

But then we have to get a new deck for our boat this spring so we can use it again and then i wanted a kayak. Ug finding the balance to enjoy life and getting things done is hard.

Spring & summer is lush in Wales, but have to agree with Elizabeth H – Cornwall rocks in July & Aug with lots going on. The surf isn’t particularly great, but is so beautiful there.
There are plenty of places/cottages to rent in the UK – did a shoot at one of these cottages years ago at Camber Sands in E.Sussex, UK – http://www.camberbeach.co.uk/
Had a big party and hired this manor in Dorset:http://www.chaffeymoorgrange.com/
and also you can rent cottages here:

The great thing about the UK is that it doesn’t have to get expensive – rent a car if you can and drive around. The Cotswolds is also beautiful too (also Kate Moss home).
Hope you find the right thing for you!

    Happy travels.

Just remembered which cottage it was in Camber Sands – check out Seascape. They also offered amazing catering too.

Oh me too! I was lucky enough to get to go to Ireland & Scotland some years ago, but never Wales or England. I’d love to go during our hot summer months when the thought escaping to the cool misty weather of Wales sounds like a dream.
And anyway, what’s wrong with living in a fairy tale ;-)?
    Blessings,
    G

Take the trip – life’s too short as they say! Wales is beautiful and never seems to get overly busy. There are some beautiful beaches as well as ‘mountains’ and lovely rolling hills.

Hi Katy. This is lovely. I’d vote for Wales every time – I’ve just got home from househunting/holidaying in North Wales and it was glorious – the walking and the scenery are wonderful. I have just written about a beautiful farmhouse we are hoping to buy on my blog, in case you’re interested! x

    Hello all
Thank you to Katy for this wonderful post about us (Sheepskin) and thank you to you all for your comments.
Reading Katy’s blog is an inspiration, I don’t know how you find the time and if you ever do get a break from renovating we’d love to welcome you to a Sheepskin cottage!
I thought you may be interested to know that we have expanded our collection outside Wales. We now have a beautiful cottage in Cornwall, in the Tamar valley, not next to the sea but in a tranquil, spot looking out across the river.

For those that love the coast we now also have a house in Ilfracombe (great for surfing at nearby Woolacome)
    http://www.sheepskinlife.com/woodenstone/
and also a house at Porlock Weir (on the south west coastal footpath
