Anta: Pillows & Throws
Posted on | January 25, 2010 | 13 Comments

If you followed this blog at all you know I am pretty obsessed with plaid and wool blankets. One of lovely readers sent me this link to Anta a woolen mill based in Scotland. Pillows, throws, rugs and fabric are available by the metre. Everything is beautiful and heavenly.
I would love to take a trip to the UK. I was discovering links to woolen mill trails this morning that were pretty seducing. Maybe I can get the BF to go if a scotch trail runs immediately along side? I hear Glenmorangie’s distillery is just down the road from Anta. hmm…I’m getting ideas. Check out Anta’s website for more inspiration: anta.co.uk.

Hello… Love your blog – am based in England but have a similar love of blankets/tweed, and am renovating an old cottage (built 1830) too.
I love melin tregwynt – based in wales for blankets of a more contemporary look. See

You can visit them too.

Rummaging through a linens pile at a Goodwill last year I found a pile of very old plaid wool blankets, all with sewn on tags from Scotland and Ireland. They were in pristine condition and I think I scored the pile for about $10.
I have never been so lucky since!
Also, I love your grey striped sheets- can you share where they are from?

Hi Annabelle,
All my sheets and pillows are from Toast. I got them in 2008 so they could be sold out.

It is indeed a lovely place – and the area where it is located is divine.
there is a great B&B – Wemyss House
http://www.wemysshouse.com/index.php
is lovely and run by the most sweet wonderful couple – Christine and Stuart – all food is local and organically grown (most from her garden) and ANTA is in ALL the bedrooms – so delicious.
its a fabulous place to stay as a base to drive up and around the Highlands – we went as far as Castle Mey (the late Queen Mother’s castle at the TIP TOP of Scotland) and back in one day… the highlands are very accessible .
just a lovely lovely place …

Katy, You may also really like Johnston’s of Elgin. If you go to Scotland, you may want to visit the factory. A lovely little museum and big store in one of the original bldgs. I loved it, but it was 10 yrs ago. They’ve been there for over 100 yrs, maybe 2. Yonks, anyway…

And if you are a foodie, you may want to check out Scotherbs and Baxter’s. At least some (and maybe all, I haven’t had them all) of their soups are very good.
