Happy New Year 2010!
Posted on | December 30, 2009 | 31 Comments

I went down to the beach at sunset thinking I would be the only soul braving the 20 degrees temps. The parking lot was full. As I got out onto the beach I noticed small groups of clammers dotting the surf. Equipped with shovels, buckets, and full winter gear these clammers didn’t even seem phased. One family was digging surf clams for a New Year’s eve clam chowder. How freakin’ adorable and cool is that?
I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who has ever commented, e-mailed, and or read my blog. Your support means the world to me and frankly is the only reason I keep going. To all my blogging friends who to continue to inspire me everyday. I’m so glad that somebody created this crazy blog world so we could all become friends. Here’s to health, happiness, and success in the New Year!

Jon Olsen: Winter Photographs

I came across Jon Olsen’s work recently on the cover of Yankee magazine. The image above is part of a winter series of photographs shot in Vermont and New Hampshire. The images capture winter as a calm and uncluttered landscape. They make me want to jump in the car and head north. How can you hate winter when it’s this beautiful? Find out more about Jon and his photographs on his site: jonolsenphotography.com. Photographs can be purchased through Jon or through local galleries that represent his work.

Rustic Farm Table For Bathroom
Posted on | December 29, 2009 | 20 Comments

Our bathroom renovation is a bit stalled for the moment. I’ll share in another post. I’ve been thinking my ideas for the bathroom have been a little too clean. My house is pretty rustic but I want to find a balance between hard core country and modern. When I say “modern” I mean early 1900’s. The funny thing is I don’t think my house even had indoor plumbing till the early 1900’s. So what is really correct? Sometimes I feel like nothing makes sense nor does it really matter.
Anyway, what I wanted to talk about was rustic tables for the bathroom. I remember finding the below table on Absolutely Beautiful Things about two years ago. Then the other day I came across the above photo and was immediately reminded of Anna’s bathroom. How’s that for photographic memory? Unfortunately, my skill only works on pretty interiors. The above photo has the sink mounted on top and below the sinks are mounted inside. I kinda like the look.

I’m a huge fan of Brahms Mount blankets & throws. I was excited to see their website has recently been updated. They have a great new video showing the history behind the company as well as how the textiles are constructed. Above and below just of few of the blankets, throws, and linens Brahms Mount manufactures out of their Hallowell, Maine studio. I’m adding their studio to my Maine road trip list for next summer. Check out more designs on their website: brahmsmount.com

I have hundreds of photos in my inspiration folder. I think I should start sharing them! I love this idea of using an old wood bench as additional setting in a kitchen. When I was kid we had this same exact bench but it was painted green. The image is from Swans Island creative director’s home in Rockport, Maine. Discovered via design*sponge.

Knitting A Pouf
Posted on | December 28, 2009 | 5 Comments

Here’s a fun project for those of you who have the week off. Why not try knitting up a pouf? Inspired by Christien Meindertsma’s Flocks Pouf (below) I found a link to make similar knitted poufs last night on Apartment Therapy. Pickles has shared online patterns for different sized poufs including knitted and crochets versions. Pickles version (above) is a variation of knit and purl. I kinda like it in just knit and that’s the only stitch I have in my knitting vocabulary at the moment. So cute for a kid-friendly home. Find the patterns and inspiration on pickles.no. Need more inspiration? Check out these crocheted poufs I found last winter, click here.

Merry Christmas & Beach Photos

I hope everyone has a great holiday. I am unplugging tonight and heading up to Maine for Christmas. I can’t wait to eat homemade cinnamon buns, my mom’s speciality on Christmas morning, and spend sometime with family. Maybe my grammy will teach me how to make her famous stuffed mushrooms? (Gram, I’ll be up tomorrow morning!) Best wishes and safe travels. xoxo, katy
Above and below just a couple photos I took down the street this afternoon. I tried taking a short video of the ocean. It’s unedited. I remember missing the sound of the ocean when I was land locked. Maybe you do too? The video is taken at my favorite local beach. Super small and perfect for sun bathing, swimming, and kayaking in the summer months.
p.s. check out this video and article of a local marblehead resident singing christmas carols at the post office. So cute!
