custom bookshelves Dining Room: Built In Shelving

I adore this pair of flanking custom built in bookcases. The shelving adds storage and endless display options. The height expands the space. Photographed by Mikkel Vang.

It’s perfect. Built in bookshelves is one of those things that I don’t do because I’m a renter, but that I seriously, seriously want.

My great ambition in life is to have built-in bookcases.

hmm. The idea of built in shelves is lovely unless you have a small or narrow house. I like these ones you show around the window. In our house the way we did things, we built in shelves in what seemed like the natural spot next to where the chimney flu sticks out. The shelves end up having the effect of making the house seem that much narrower and cramped.
