Campo De Fiori Aged Terracotta Hurricanes

I was searching for outdoor lanterns when I came across these beauties (above). I love the terra cotta paired with the glass. They remind of the terrariums I spotted this past winter at Farmhouse Wares (below). The price is pretty steep for the lanterns; $135 for the small version. I wonder if it would be cheaper to buy a basic terra cotta pot base and a basic glass hurricane? I have the bases and think if I really search my closets I have hurricanes. Would be so pretty in a garden.

I think you are on to something. A less expensive version could very easily be made with terra cotta plant pot saucers and inexpensive hurricanes. I bet a place like the Christmas Tress Shop (maybe a New England store, don't know) or Target could do the trick.

I seem to recall some method for making terracotta look aged — if you feel the need — by coating it in yoghurt and leaving it outside. Sounds pretty gross, so google it first!
Maybe a wash of grey/green acrylic paint would be less yucky?
Those lamps do look great. But ridiculously exy.

I picked up some similar hurricanes at Christmas Tree Shop over the weekend for $4.99 each. Next time I am at Snug Harbor Farm i'm going to pick up some aged terracotta pot saucers. Total cost? About $8 each. Maybe $15 if I use a beeswax candle.
