I learned to card wool and spin a few years ago by a dear family friend who is now in her mid-90s! She gave me her spinning wheel, her carders and an entire fleece of wool and spent a weekend showing me how to wash, dry, pick and card the wool and then her technique for spinning. Spinning is one of those "an hour to learn a life time to master" skills. Friends tease me, but I love to spin wool. I wish I had more time to devote to it. It is very relaxing and I feel like I have accomplished something when I see a big beautiful ball of yarn that I made myself! Katy, thanks for posting this book. I say that these things, which used to be taught and practiced by every genteel young lady are soon going to be forgotten if they aren't taught. I find it very meditative, and I create some awesome things! I will have to pick up this book because I am interested in some of the other things in it... for the same reason as you... returning to a simpler way of life.
