Black Zebra 756304 Heirloom Tomato Seeds

I’m getting pretty excited for Spring. This year we plan on renovating the outside of our house and adding a garden. One my favorite things to grow is tomatoes. Garden grown vegetables are seriously beyond heaven. I want to get a head start and think about ordering some heirloom tomato seeds. They are delicious in all my favorite warm weather salads. I found this great site that carries a number of different heirloom seeds: Tomato Bob. One of my favorite varieties are the Black Zebra shown above. The purple and green streaks look amazing in a salad. Find out more: tomatobob.com.

Love the photos. We are on your exact same page (finishing the exterior front this summer). What are you guys going to do? And, more importantly, what kind of planters are you putting your tomatoes in? Small question, but I'm at a loss. Those wooden barrels that most people use?

I think I might just plant them in the ground. Haven't really thought about it yet.

Definately plant them in the ground if you have the room. I've tried container tomato and they are a pain. They always fall over even if you stake them up well and you have to water them a lot more because the container dries out a lot more readily than the ground. I would only do a container tomato if its one that is meant for a container, like those "patio tomato plants" Good luck!!

We grew Black Zebra tomatoes in the Organic Gardening Magazine Test Garden last year and they were fantastic!
Here's some of our tomato harvest:

I even made some into homemade marinara because they have a good amount of "meat" in proportion to "juice"- definitely a favorite, good luck!

Check out Seed Savers Exchange, too. I started my tomato seeds about two weeks ago, and they're starting to sprout! I was literally jumping for joy!

Homegrown tomatoes are the only kind I've not disliked. We'll be growing more this year!

I enjoy your blog so much! However, I had bad luck with Tomato Bob's. I ordered seeds several months back – hoping to grow beauties like those pictured above. I never received the seeds and they haven't responded to my email. They don't answer their phone and don't respond to messages left. I'm out almost forty dollars and have no seeds! Just a warning to others…
