Bathroom Tile Inspiration

Penny Round Tiles in celadon from Ann Sacks,

One of first projects on the new house is re-doing one of three bathrooms. I’ve been pulling together a little bathroom inspiration to maybe get an idea of what kind of tile we might want to use. We definitely want something classic in white or carrera marble. The house is 250 years old so we don’t want to get to modern. I love hexs, penny rounds, basketweave, and subway tiles. But which one to choose? The bathroom is on the first floor and maybe a potential rental apartment. So I don’t want to go to fancy. Check out some of my ideas above and below.

Small hexs,

Larger hex tiles with subway,

Subway tiles with hex floor,

Cork penny rounds,

Carrera marble basketweave,

  1. Katy, we finally got the floor done: 1″ white hex and the grout is now actually done. I still wish we’d gone w/ the white marble hex, but after Home Expo closed, the local marble shop was selling it for $36/sq. ft. (3x what HE charged). I beats the 60’s pink tile that was there. I might have some 3″x6″ marble subway tile to donate for your shower…

  2. Good tip on white tile! My first thought is maybe it's good to know my bathroom is dirty? My second I think it might make me crazy since I'm not a neat freak.

  3. A note of caution…My bathroom looks strikingly similar to the "larger hex tiles" photo and you REALLY see every hair on a white tile floor like that. Maybe it's better with smaller tiles/more grout lines? I don't know….I will never ever have a white bathroom floor again if I can help it, despite loving the historical accuracy of ours in our 1901 apartment!

  4. I just installed the basketweave in my bathroom and I LOVE IT. I'll be posting photos on my blog soon.

  5. ooh, i love the pink and white wallpaper in the first domino pic. sweet ~ but not too sweet.

  6. I am a "penny round" gal myself…however, I don't think you could go wrong with any of these choices. I am happy to have stumbled upon your blog.
