Lauri Faggioni

Posted on | March 26, 2008 | 5 Comments

I just got the new Anthropologie home catalog in the mail. To my surprise the new set looked just like Lauri Faggioni’s tastemaker piece for House & Garden back in 2007. I saved the image from the old website…it’s one of my absolute favorites. I remember begging to put it on our homepage. Love! So is the new Anthropologie catalog the work of Lauri? While searching for the answer I came across the blog wee wonderfuls. A reader of her blog mentioned Lauri was the production designer of the video below. Super cool. So if anyone finds out the answer let me know.

Update: So it looks like the Anthro home spread was the work of Domestic Construction via The Constant Gatherer.

I was searching for an answer to the same burning question and found your blog (great find, btw).

I, too, immediately thought of Lauri's spread from last summer when I saw the catalog! I love her work.

funny! i just blogged about the same thing. in fact it wasn't lauri who produced anthropologie's latest catalog back-drop- go here: http://theconstantgatherer.blogspot.com/2008/03/domestic-construction.html to read about the girls who have replicated the original artwork of oh so talented Lauri, without ever mentioning her name!!

this is a letter i sent to domestic construction when I saw the catalogue:
    Hi.
My name is Michel Gondry and i am a close friend and collaborator of Lauri Faggioni.
I noticed the strong exposition of a work credited by you on the anthropology home book set of april 2008 that is not only derivative but an exact reproduction of the work of Lauri Faggioni from which she is not credited.
What you are taking on is not only her work but her universe. A world she has created over the years and that is unique to her. It defines her. In fact, the design she created for the publication and that you are reproducing was meaning to define her, as the article was about her, and her art. anthropology
By appropriating her creation and crediting it to yourself you are causing an extreme damage to herself, her work, her possibilities to make a living. This is unacceptable, undignified, especially from people who claim they are artists themselves. Lauri Faggioni is a person of integrity and draws her inspiration from within herself. I have never encountered anywhere else what she does. And i looked very hard, believe me. So I don't understand why I see her work in a catalogue wildly spread with your names attached to it.
If you have any sense of respect you must take the work that represents her off the anthropology catalogue (on the net) and your website. And credit her for the ones that are already published.
I really hope that my voice will reach out to you and you will correct the damage you are causing.
If not, I will have many opportunities to make it reach out through other ways.
    Respectfully,
    Michel Gondry.
